World Cup poule Cursor: and the winners are...

After more than five weeks, Germany won the World Cup in Brazil yesterday. And that means that after more than five weeks, the winners of our World Cup poule can be announced. Student of Applied Mathematics Rik Schepens turns out to be the best at predicting the matches.

The World Cup - and with that, the Cursor World Cup poule - was all over the place during the first couple of weeks of the sports event. It's safe to say anything can happen in soccer, and the same goes for a soccer poule like the one Cursor set up, for which 191 TU/e people registered.

We now know Germany is our new world champion, and that means we can announce our champions, too. Bachelor student Rik Schepens of Applied Mathematics triumphed, followed by Master student Thomas Houben of Built Environment. In third place we find Marco ten Eikelder (Master student of Applied Mathematics) and press officer Barry van der Meer (CEC).

All winners will be notified by Cursor. They may then choose from a bunch of prizes, including unlimited access to the Student Sports Center for a year, a caricature of yourself and your favorite soccer player, lunch at De Zwarte Doos, a ride in Professor Maarten Steinbuch's Tesla, 20 drink vouchers for the Ballenbak, Studium Generale movie tickets, and ad space in Cursor.

ICT Services was the best service overall, followed by CEC. The best department was Applied Physics. Chemical Engineering & Chemistry and Mathematics & Computer Science came in second and third, respectively. Master students did better than Bachelor students, who in turn did better than supporting staff. Academic staff scored the fewest points.
