Overnight transport for DIFFER

Large buildings require large parts. Considering the noise that comes with bringing in the rafters for the new home of FOM institute DIFFER that’s currently being constructed on the east side of campus, it’s been decided to move them at a quieter time. Last night, the rafters, measuring 27 by 5 meters, were rolled in via the entrance at TNO.

Although the transport wasn’t entirely smooth -two road signs were destroyed as the trailer turned right toward GE Healthcare instead of taking the traffic circle-, eventually the rafters arrived at their destination without too much trouble.

According to Hay Becks of Safety & Security, the company that was in charge of coordinating the transport, only experienced a minor issue with cars that were parked along the alternative route, which belonged to GE Healthcare employees; the company produces medical isotopes 24/7. As soon as the car owners were tracked down, the road to the DIFFER construction site was accessible again.

The campus entrance at TNO is the widest and highest, which is why it’s always used for bringing in large construction material, says Becks.
