Pretty TU/e gals and guys
‘It goes against the ugly nerd image.’ That’s how the founders of Facebook page ‘Parels van TUEindhoven’ (Gems of TUEindhoven) describe their initiative. “We want to prove there’s plenty of pretty at our university”, they say via e-mail. The website presents TU/e babes and hunks.
They prefer to remain anonymous, but they claim to be ‘a large team of men and women’ from the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences.
The Facebook page is already live. The idea is that TU/e people send in a pretty picture of themselves or someone else. “We want to ask for permission, but we do receive ‘anonymous’ tips as well. If someone has strong objections, we’ll remove their picture immediately, of course. Photos that mock people or random party pictures will never be published.”
Although it’s mostly photos of students right now, PhD students and faculty are most welcome, too. “But we’re not so sure they’re open to the idea…”
The initiators found out only later that a similar website already existed: Parels van de TU/e (gems of TU/e). According to the founders of the new site, the other Facebook page contains ‘lots of fake and photoshopped entries’. “We consider our page to be a fresh start of the idea.” The people behind ‘Parels van TU/e’ have informed us that their page, which kicked off in September, is for ‘entertainment’ purposes. “And we want to represent life at TU/e. Photoshop is something we are confronted with on a daily basis, which is why use it on our page blatantly.” They wish to stay anonymous, too.
