Changes in collective labor agreement (CAO), more indefinite contracts
Negotiators of unions and universities have come to an agreement on a new collective labor agreement (CAO). Wages will increase by three percent, and employees will receive an extra 350-euro bonus in 2016. The agreement will now be submitted to the unions and university boards. If they agree, the new CAO will be effective until July 1, 2016. Wages will go up in two phases: By two percent on January 1, 2015, and one year after that by another one percent.
Previously negotiations broke down because of the number of temporary contracts for researchers. Parties have reached consensus on that issue as well. Universities will push back the number of temporary contracts (up to four years) to 22 percent, but only for professors, associate professors, assistant professors and other teachers. This measure will be evaluated late 2016.
