“Really vague plans” only for Starbucks on TU/e grounds
The news spread like wildfire on Twitter last Tuesday: ‘Starbucks opens branch at TU/e’. An employee of the US coffee company on the High Tech Campus is reported to have said so a day earlier. TU/e has confirmed Starbucks’ interest in opening a branch on campus, but there are no real plans yet.
Starbucks seems to take a serious interest in opening branches in Eindhoven: coffee shops opened at Eindhoven Airport, the central train station, and High Tech Campus in quick succession. After having opened coffee bars on university campuses in Rotterdam and Tilburg, Starbucks may have set its eyes on TU/e.
Monique Kuyck of Internal Affairs confirms the company is interested. “We’ve talked about it vaguely, but there’s no location or date at all. We’ve been presented with several ideas, but haven’t seen any actual figures.”
She continues: “I know there are plans to revive campus, and in all honesty, it would be great to have a Starbucks. I think many students would be absolutely thrilled, but that goes for any other similar concept: I’m sure an AH to go would be a success just as well.”
Starbucks won’t go into opening a possible new location in Eindhoven and remains silent. Spokeswoman Christine Reiber says “Starbucks is always looking for options to expand. […] Right now however, we don’t have any news in that respect.”
