High ranking URE at Hockenheim ‘World Cup’
University Racing Eindhoven (URE) and their URE09 have achieved a respectable fifth place in the German city of Hockenheim. The Eindhoven team participated in the electric class division of Formula Student Germany, the unofficial world cup for student racing teams.
They were close to nabbing fourth place, says URE team manager Bart Kienhuis: “The competition is made up of several parts, including autocross. For that, you have to race a one-kilometer track as fast as you can, making turns and even slaloming for a bit. Unfortunately, by the time it was out run to race, it started pouring, which set off our safety system that’s implemented in every electric car because of their high voltage. It stops the car, so we haven’t been able to finish the race. It’s bad luck, but we sure lost some points there.”
URE’s performances bode well for the final race of the season that’ll be held in Barcelona later this month. And for next year, too, when URE will introduce their first-ever four-wheel drive. This year’s top three at Hockenheim were all 4WD. With their new URE10 the TU/e team should be able to make it into the top three, then. “But in Barcelona, we’re in it to win it just as well!”
