Bussemaker encourages TU/e to stay in touch
Towards the end of her working visit to TU/e today, Minister of Education Jet Bussemaker appealed to businesses. “It’s them who tend to complain about the quality of education, but I’d like to ask businesses to invest more in better education themselves”, said the member of government. The Executive board of TU/e received an open invitation to definitely feel free to stay in touch with her ministry.
Today, minister Bussemaker was presented with a high-speed update on the long-term plans of TU/e, and was informed about the Bachelor College as well as the ideas of the Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE) concerning the desired increase of the number of academically-trained high-school teachers.
Of course, there was hardware to admire as well: in between meetings, she visited the world-champion robot team of Tech United, had a look at the robot that can optimize eye surgery, and popped the hood of several test vehicles at the Automotive Lab of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Lex Lemmens, dean of the Bachelor College, presented the main ideas of the new educational concept, and used the opportunity to present several preliminary results as well. Bussemaker found the increase of the number of female first-year students (from two hundred to three hundred) significant.
