World Juggling Day festival in Student Sports Center
Not only will TU/e be accommodating thousands of volleyball players this weekend, but the university will also be hosting the Eindhoven Juggling Festival. From June 14-16, amateur and professional jugglers will meet in the Student Sports Center to juggle and exchange tricks. Visitors are free to try their skills with juggling material provided by the organization.
Pins, balls, rings, diabolos – you name it, the festival’s got it lying around for the workshops and try-out circus of the Eindhoven Juggling Festival. On top of that, expect Chinese plates devil sticks, and human-sized hamster balls. The organization wants to promote juggling as a hobby.
June 15 is World Juggling Day and to celebrate, juggling events are organized the world over. This year the Dutch event will be held at TU/e. According to organizer Ferco Adamczky the location is very appropriate. “Juggling is often enjoyed by science enthusiasts. Juggling requires a specific mentality involving perseverance, creativity and seriousness. Those characteristics are often found in people who study at or graduated from a university of technology or at a technical university of applied sciences. Twente University even has an actual juggling association, CatchUp. They organized the event in 2011. Last year, Nijmegen hosted the festival.”
The festival expects some fifty to sixty participants, since there are many other events including Pinkpop, the Hajraa volleyball tournament, and exam week for high-school students. Participants can stay the night at the Sports Center.
