MetaForum wins ‘Gulden Feniks’ for best transformation

TU/e’s MetaForum building has won the ‘Gulden Feniks’ (golden phoenix) in the category Transformation. The news was announced at the Amsterdam real-estate fair PROVADA just now on Tuesday afternoon, June 4. Eindhoven landed another award as well: Strijp-S won in the category Area Transformation.

A total of 92 projects were submitted for the 2013 ‘Gulden Feniks’. ‘The number-one prize for existing stock’ is awarded by the National Renovation Platform every year. Ten entries were nominated in one of the categories Area Transformation, Renovation, and Transformation. MetaForum, designed by Ector Hoogstad Architects, was nominated in the latter category along with the Amsterdam Rembrandt Park Building and the Den Bosch Museum Quarter.

MetaForum had already received an honorable mention at the Building of the Year contest, and it has been nominated for the LEAF Award of the Leading European Architects Forum, an international prize that will be awarded in September. MetaForum is one of six nominated projects in the category Refurbishment.

MetaForum wins first international prize

The MetaForum building landed its first international prize last Friday, September 20. The construction won a LEAF Award in the category ‘Refurbishment of the Year’, one of nine awards categories.

Footbridges MetaForum closed

Over the next six months, three of the four footbridges to MetaForum will be closed off for renovation. Renovation involves the footbridge from MetaForum to Matrix (July 22 – October 7), to Potentiaal (August 5 – October 28), and to the Hoofdgebouw (September 3 – December 2). Eventually, all bridges that are part of the ‘compact campus’ will be renovated.

Early decontamination MetaForum

MetaForum will be decontaminated and cleaned thoroughly from June 14-16 and June 21-23. Immediate cause for the cleanup is a bacterium that was found in the induction units of part of the offices in the building, which was reason for Real Estate Management (DH) to move the planned periodical decontamination of the climate control system forward.

Ceres is Building of the Year

TU/e’s Ceres building was named yesterday as Building of the Year by the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA). The building is home to the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems, and also houses the activities of the Eindhoven Multiscale Institute and the Eindhoven Polymer Laboratories. A total of twelve buildings were nominated for the award. Ceres was designed by diederendirrix architects.
