Footbridges MetaForum closed
Over the next six months, three of the four footbridges to MetaForum will be closed off for renovation. Renovation involves the footbridge from MetaForum to Matrix (July 22 – October 7), to Potentiaal (August 5 – October 28), and to the Hoofdgebouw (September 3 – December 2). Eventually, all bridges that are part of the ‘compact campus’ will be renovated.
Reason for the renovation is the “downright bad climate” of the bridges, according to Head of Project Office of Real Estate Management, ing. Jan Pekelder. “The façades are old and don’t meet the physical requirements anymore, due to which the bridges get really hot in summer and very cold in winter.” Pekelder says the ceilings and floors will also be renovated. “We should be able to manage the climate on the bridges properly after we’ve done so, but don’t expect any miracles.” All footbridges that are part of the ‘compact campus’ should eventually be renovated.
The footbridge between MetaForum and the Hoofdgebouw will be the last to be fixed, after the opening of the academic year on September 2. At least that way prominent guests can walk from the Hoofdgebouw to MetaForum and stay dry in case of rainfall.
