Academic year focuses on ambition
On Monday at 4pm, TU/e will usher in the new academic year. This year’s theme is ‘Appetite for Ambition’. Dick Benschop, CEO of Shell Netherlands, and successful young entrepreneur Danny Mekic’ will share their experiences with the audience. The afternoon will also see the presentation of the Education Awards. The event will be concluded by Groove Department, 30 past 7, and the SOG Band, and DJ John & Mr Smith, who will all perform at MetaForum.
In his opening speech, Rector prof.dr.ir. Hans van Duijn will talk about the new theme and touch upon several things that are in the pipeline. He’ll be followed by Shell’s Dick Benschop, who’s been CEO of the company since 2011. From 1998-2002, he served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs under Kok.
After a musical performance by TU/e alumnus Rob Ritzen and Sanne Mallant, singing a song from student musical Scarlet Pimpernel, Danny Mekic' will take the stand. He was voted one of 50 greatest Dutch talents by Elsevier magazine. In that same month he was declared the most successful young entrepreneur of the Netherlands by Sprout, a magazine for entrepreneurs.
The Education Awards for undergraduates and graduate students will also be presented at the event, as well as the new names for the buildings of Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics.
