It’s the first time De Zwarte Doos starts off the season with an event. “We’ve been thinking about organizing activities more regularly anyway”, says Shanti Keur, marketing intern at the grand café. She feels students do enjoy De Zwarte Doos, “especially for Friday afternoon drinks or after an exam period. Still, apart from the movie theater, there isn’t that much going on here.”
The grand café doesn’t want to focus on students exclusively, Keur stresses, but it does want to work with them more often where events are concerned, such as live music gigs. The place is also looking to work more closely with Studium Generale.

De Zwarte Doos considers the barbecue that kicks off at 4p.m. on April 25 to be a taste of what guests can come to expect of the on-campus café. The grand café expects some three hundred dinner guests. There’s no need to make reservations. Dinner is 12.50 euro, but those who want to come for a drink only are welcome, too. There will be a special summer drinks menu, as well as live music by Friends with Benefits.
