ID professor Feijs wins ‘Mondrian programming contest’

Prof.dr.ir. Loe Feijs has won the Elegant Algorithms contest, for which programmers were asked to recreate Mondrian’s Victory Boogie Woogie using source code. Feijs, professor of Designed Intelligence at the Department of Industrial Design, and Mondrian enthusiast, was voted the winner by a judging panel of six at the Gemeentemuseum The Hague. His submission as well as those of the two other finalists will be on display in a digital exhibition in the museum.

A Mondrian from the computer

Art and technology have more in common than people often think. As is proved by TU/e professor Loe Feijs. Having written a computer program that creates ‘Mondrians’ he made the most beautiful variant of the painter’s famous Victory Boogie Woogie. It yielded him a performance with Pauw & Witteman and an honorable place in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague. Right next to the real Victory Boogie Woogie.

'Garish machine' by ID at STRP Biennial

It’s a ten-day art, music and technology festival: the STRP Biennial, which opened its doors in the Klokgebouw at Strijp-S on March 1. Theme of the festival is ‘City of Cyborgs’. Dr.ir. Koert van Mensvoort of Industrial Design at TU/e will be delivering a lecture at STRP College. His ID colleague Bert Lonsain and his project group will be participating in ‘The New Machine Era’.
