TEDxAmsterdam Award for researchers Built Environment

Last Friday, the TEDxAmsterdam Award/City of the Future Prize has been awarded to TU/e researchers dr.ir. Rossella Ferraro and dr.ir.arch. Alexander Suma for their wind energy system for the built environment. Their unique system will be installed on top of Vertigo in 2013.

The prize is awarded annually and goes to the best idea towards a better world. IRWES had also won the Herman Wijffels Innovation Prize earlier this month. Among the top ten was another TU/e entry: that of dr.ir. Massimo Mischi (Electrical Engineering) on Prostate Cancer Diagnostics.

[Translate to English:] TU/e’ers kunnen op 30 november vanuit het Auditorium live meekijken en -luisteren naar de voordrachten van TEDxAmsterdam. Er is de hele dag een liveverbinding met de hoofdstad, ook is het de bedoeling dat studenten en medewerkers hier zich actief in het evenement kunnen mengen.

Herman Wijffels Innovation Prize for TU/e wind turbine

Dr.ir.arch. Alexander Suma (32) and dr.ir. Rossella Ferraro (30) were awarded the herman Wijffels Innovation Prize for their wind turbine yesterday night. Their invention, also known as IRWES, allows for energy generation on high-rises with little wind, and possibly even on low-rises in an urban environment. The innovation prize is awarded to people with ideas for products, techniques, or services that have potential and are sustainable.
