Spring sun warms up campus again

As temperatures climb into the double digits, the campus is buzzing with people soaking up the year's first rays of sunshine. Shorts are coming out of the closet, and sunglasses are going on. Under the clear blue sky, students and staff are making the most of the green campus.

Since yesterday, spring is officially here, and it’s evident in the students and employees soaking up the sunshine during their breaks or between lectures. Almost every bench is taken, and the lawns are a great place to relax. There’s laughter, music, and games being played - though a fresh breeze still lingers at times.

At a yellow table on the Koeveld sits Baisong. He completed his PhD in Soft Robotics and now works on campus. “I've been sitting here all week to meet up with people and have a nice chat,” he says. With weather like this, he often eats his lunch outside. “I stay here as long as I can.” As for the weather report predicting clouds later in the day, 'we’ll just ignore that for now.'

Across from Baisong sits student Lu (Industrial Design), eating a salad. “I even biked here a little earlier today so I could enjoy the sun's rays along the way. It's great to see the campus so crowded.” Baisong adds, “We experienced the deadly silence during COVID, so we appreciate the liveliness much more now."
